School Music Source Announces Music Studio and Store launch

SUMMER 2008 - ROCK BAND CAMP: Camp Rocks! School Music Source is sponsoring a kick-off event for the summer. Camp Rocks! It's a fun, and educationally sound, rock band camp for ages 9-18, held in various venues throughout the NW Valley and the Arts District. Instructors are talented and well known performers and teachers. Students will learn arranging, production, and performance skills, and learn to work as a team while rehearsing together for 12 hours and performing on stage for family and friends.

WEB FORUM: Local music performers, teachers, and students can share their concerts, ideas, achievements, successes, and stories about music education and performance.

One volunteer from each performing group and each school performing group is sought to be a web editor/blogger to submit the events & achievements, etc. for posting on www.SchoolMusicSource.com.

SHEET MUSIC: SchoolMusicSource. com has a comprehensive selection of sheet music and daily specials including all genres, instruments, and voice.

RENTALS: Instrument rentals feature top name brands, and will be available starting in June. School music directors who have an instrument rental night in the Fall 08 are asked to phone School Music Source with the date/time and every effort will be made to attend.

SUMMER HEAD START: It is suggested that students joining band, orchestra, or guitar class in the Fall get a head-start and rent an instrument in June and take lessons throughout the summer.

FREE SECTIONALS & CLINICS: Director, Claude Borders, offers complimentary horn and brass sectionals for MS and HS bands. One of his former horn students, Chris Castellanos, is a member of the famous Dallas Brass. Contact School Music Source to schedule a session.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Auditions will begin in June for The Scholarship Brass Quintet, the ambassadors for School Music Source. Students will receive free group coaching sessions with members of the faculty, and will perform at various events throughout the year. Interested students should call or write for free information. In the near future The Scholarship Woodwind Quintet and String Quartet!

BAND & ORCHESTRA RECRUITING & RETENTION - GIA MUSIC PLACEMENT TESTS: Discounts on these nationally normed tests are available at SchoolMUSICsource.com. School music directors are gaining greater numbers of students and retaining students longer in their programs when using the GIA Music Aptitude Test and the Timbre Preference Survey. When students are beginning to enroll in band or orchestra in middle school, these tests help place students on the correct instrument. This is not intended to exclude any student from a school performing group but to ensure improved instrumentation and retention. Savings will be passed on to directors and School Music Source is willing to assist in testing of students.

PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTORS NEEDED: If teachers would like to be a part of the new, fun, and educationally sound music studio, consider joining the School Music Source Faculty and recieve top pay and eventually benefits. Part-time & full-time instructor positions are available on all instruments and voice.

REPAIRS: Repair technician, Rebecca Nolan, received training at the Red Wing Musical Instrument Repair School at Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical. Instrument repairs will be picked up and delivered to your door if desired.
